Riverdale Bungalow was the highly secret headquarters of Force 136 (Special Operations Executive) that organized attacks behind enemy lines on Japanese occupied South East Asia during WW2. Lord Mountbatten was a frequent visitor to Riverdale Bungalow.

Location For The Filming Of ‘The Bridge Over The River Kwai'
Sir David Lean’s ‘The Bridge On The River Kwai’ - one of the greatest movies of all time - was shot entirely on location in Ceylon. About 20 minutes of the entire film was filmed in the gardens and verandah of Riverdale Bungalow. The American movie icon William Holden and British great Jack Hawkins spent many weeks shooting important sequences at Riverdale.

The bungalow is a private wing of a historic colonial building overlooking the
river valley, with Kandy in easy reach (not part of the main hotel, but same or
better quality, food and service). The daytime views and sunsets are
stunning. The infinity pool, gardens and outdoor areas plenty. The food and
service were impeccable. The history of the building is fascinating.
